FIXED HORIZONTAL LOG-PERIODIC ANTENNA FOR SHORTWAVE RADIO BROADCASTING

            GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The horizontally polarized log-periodic antenna is a broadband and directional antenna with high gain, designed for short, medium and long range communications.

They are available in a range of lower frequency limits, take-off angles and gains.

The radiation pattern is generally consistent over the entire frequency range of the antenna, however the pattern can be tailored to suit requirements.

Side lobes are consistently low over the entire operating range of these antennas, providing good discrimination against interfering signals.

The radiating structure consists of a series of broadband dipoles. The dipoles are fed along the center of the structure.

A ground mat is not required, since the effect of ground conductivity on the antenna performance is relatively small.

The horizontal log-periodic antenna is designed for direct connection to a 300 ohm balanced open wire feeder or a 50 ohm coaxial line with a balun transformer.

The supporting structure of the antenna can either be a single central tower or two towers with the antenna suspended inbetween.
